IRS: New car buyers may be able to deduct sales tax

Houston Business Journal

Those who buy a new car this year may be able to deduct state and local sales and excise taxes on the purchase in their 2009 tax returns next year, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

The deduction, part of the federal stimulus package passed last month, is limited to the state and local sales and excise taxes paid on up to $49,500 of the purchase price of a qualified new car, light truck, motor home or motorcycle.

The amount of the deduction is phased out for taxpayers whose modified adjusted gross income is between $125,000 and $135,000 for individual filers and between $250,000 and $260,000 for joint filers.

The IRS also said the vehicle must be purchased after Feb. 16, 2009, and before Jan. 1, 2010, to qualify. The deduction is available regardless of whether a taxpayer itemizes their return.

It may not be taken on 2008 tax returns.

No More ATM Fees!

Did you know that you can use your Consumers Choice Debit or ATM card to withdraw money at any
7-11 ATM free of charge?

Yes, 7-11 is part of the Co-op Network!  So you can grab some cash next time you get a slurpee with no fees!
And AS ALWAYS our ATM is surcharge free.

Note: If the machine says there is a fee you can accept the charges and, as long as it is a 7-11 ATM or an ATM within the co-op network, you will not be charged. You are allowed up to 6 free transactions at any CO-OP network ATM. After your 6th transaction, the Credit Union will charge you $1.00 per transaction.

Get Your FREE Credit Report

According to the Federal Trade Commission the ONLY authorized online source to get your free credit report is at www.annualcreditreport.com. All three files - Experian, Equifax and TransUnion - are merged into one. Consumers should be aware that there are many sites out there that claim to offer "free" credit reports but often charge you for another product if you accept the report. If requesting your report on line is not for you than you can do it by phone at (877) 322-8228 or by mail at:
